This weeks Theme Unlucky

Jean Claude from Anita Blake Series

Ok let me explain why I think Jean Claude is unlucky, for 1. he is in love with Anita, who is a Vampire Killer, 2. Anita is in love with a Werewolf who is connected to Jean Claude. 3. Jean Claude is a Succubi that isn’t allowed to feed his “urges” without Anita. 3. Anita is feeding her “Urges” With everyone else. 4. One of the most powerful Vampires in America is being surpassed by his human girlfriend. 4. The poor guy just can’t get a break. Between his girlfriend living and sleeping with everyone, only seeing her at nighttime, and other creatures and people trying to constantly kill him or Anita, he is not having a very good time.

“I did not run to him, but I did wrap my arms around him, press my ear to his chest, hold on to him as if he were the last solid thing in the world. He stroked my hair and murmured to me in French. I understood enough to know he was glad to see me and that he thought I looked beautiful. But beyond that it was just pretty noise.
It wasn’t until I felt Zerbrowski behind me that I pulled away, but when Jean-Claude’s hand found mine, I welcomed it.
Zerbrowski was looking at me as if he’d never seen me before. “What?” It came out hostile.
“I’ve never seen you be that … soft with anyone before.”
It startled me. “You’ve seen me kiss Richard before.”
He nodded. “That was lust. This is …” He shook his head, glancing up at Jean-Claude, then back to me. “He makes you feel safe.”

“You are an irritating son of a bitch.”
“Ah, ma petite, how can I resist you when you whisper such sweet endearments to me?”

“There was a time when you would have taken my heart with stake or gun. Now you have taken it with these delicate hands and the scent of your body.”

“Oui , but if all the men in your life are happy, you are happier, and it makes my life easier.”

  1. He sounds very unlucky! I love the quotes. I read the first book, possibly the only one without any sex! Or am I remembering it wrong? I like this Jean Claude. Seems Anita does not know what to do with him. I didn’t do my sidekick post this week, but I chose Jason Stackhouse. That guy cannot catch a break. Even when he’s trying to be good, his life turns to…poop. How are you enjoying Gameboard of the Gods? I have it on my summer reading list.

    • I love Jason, I was going to pick Amelia, because how unlucky can you be to turn you boyfriend into a cat? the later Anita books is just straight out porn lol, but still enjoyable. To be honest with Gameboard of the Gods being a huge Mead fan I am thinking of DNF it. There are too many pov as well as no action. I am 50% into it thinking when is something fun going to happen? It breaks my heart when I have loved every book of hers. how is your weekend going?

      • I’m spending my weekend stressing about an upcoming trip to Iowa. I have to do stealth packing so the boys don’t repeatedly sneak off with the stuff I’m loading in the suitcase. Plus, my mind isn’t holding in any new information. People talk to me, I stammer back with John or Will filling in my sentences. Selfishly, I want to hide away in a room…with a door and lock and my computer. And chocolate.

Sadness about Gameboard. Like you, I have read and enjoyed all Mead’s previous books. The first Bloodlines was a struggle only because I wasn’t ready for Sydney. I just want Adrian. And Eddie, I love that guy too! I fear I will be a decisive quitter after only a couple chapters. The saving grace is that I’m loving Fall of Night by Rachel Caine.
p.s. I laughed at the straight up porn, but still enjoyable comment. I’m usually good with an author evolving in that direction. hehe

      • I have only read 3 of the morganville series, so I am trying to catch up but I love Rachel Caine’s warden series. I thought Sydney was a strange choice for a spin off but now I am loving It (and Adrian) lol.

  2. I have only read the first book in this series, but I can’t remember how unlucky Jean-Claude is… And since so many people keep telling me that the first few books are great, and the next not so good, I am hesitant to get the next books and continue to read.

Thanks for stopping by my Sidekick Post earlier 🙂 I hope you’re having a good weekend.

  3. Oh wow, I didn’t even think of him, but you are so right. After all those points are made, how could you think of him as anything BUT unlucky? Excellent choice! Also, I wanted to tell you that I read Gameboard too and the action actually picks up quite a bit after the 50% mark so if you’ve stuck with it this long, my advice is to allow yourself to get to the good stuff. I almost DNF’d it too and I ended up giving it 2.5 stars overall due to the last half. Good luck 😀 Jaclyn @ JC’s Book Haven.
