Sidekick Saturday

Sidekick Saturday is a bit of fun meme, hosted by JC Bookhaven, Each week Jaclyn picks a Theme and we add which sidekick we think suits the theme, I think this is a great Meme because sometimes it is the Sidekicks that are underestimated in novels.

spoiler Alert!

This weeks Theme:  Villain Among Villains

Akasha from Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles – 1988’s The Queen of the Damned

I am going to go back in time when vampires were scary creatures of the night, not sparkly lovey dovey creatures.  Out of all the Vampires in The Vampire Chronicles and there were some horrible ones, Akasha was the worst, She was The Queen of Ancient Iraq, Akasha was interested in learning about spirits and tortured two young twins that were known for comuning with the spirits to make contact with them. They brought forth a spirit that did not like Akasha, and during an attack both Akasha and her King were killed, Akashas spirit merged with the spirit the twins called and returned to her body, she became the first Vampire.

Akasha has no morality, or compassion, the only feelings she has are to fulfill her own desires. Which is to destroy all Vampires.

“The spirit who inhabits her animates us all. Destroy the host, you destroy the power. The young die first; the old wither slowly; the eldest perhaps would go last. But she is the Queen of the Damned, and the Damned can’t live without her.”
— Anne Rice (The Queen of the Damned (The Vampire Chronicles, #3))

  1. Oh wow! What a great pick.I love going back to great novels as well, and this choice seems right on the money. Love what you said about it being a time when vampires were still scary creatures LOL. Don’t you think these evil beings that have no compassion are truly vile? They are what make a spectacularly scary villain. Thank you so much for stopping by my SKS and for participating 😀 I always look so forward to seeing what characters you pick. • that and you know if the scary vampires are afraid of her, then she must be monstrous. I sometimes miss the good old scary vampire. Thanks for stopping by I love taking part in sidekick saturday, It really makes you think. 🙂

    • The movie didn’t follow the book at all, This was one book I didn’t read before the movie, and It blew my mind that they named them the same when they were completely different.

      • I don’t think they can get away with that these days. Book fans are too hardcore. Have you read or watched Blood and Chocolate (shifter story)? The stories go in completely different directions, I can’t believe they did that!

      • I have never heard of that I will have to look it up. True blood hasn’t been following the story lines for a while now, but I am starting to enjoy the fact that I don’t know what is going to happen.
