Synopsis from Goodreads

Had everyone bitten tonight caught this? The other bites had not looked like vampire bites. They’d been zombie, or human looking. Was this infection something that vampires and shapeshifters could catch? If it was, then it was something new.

Some zombies are raised. Others must be put down. Just ask me, Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter.

Before now, I figured I could handle them. Before now, I had never heard of any of them causing human beings to perish in such agony. But that’s all changed.

Micah’s estranged father lies dying, rotting away inside from some strange ailment that has his doctors whispering about ‘zombie disease’.

I make my living from zombies – but these aren’t the kind I know so well. These creatures hunt in daylight, and are as fast and strong as vampires. If they bite you, you become just like them. And round and round it goes…

Where will it stop? Even I don’t know

my thoughts

Yay for Laurell K Hamilton, Still loving the Anita Blake Series after number 22.

It is great to see that Ms Hamilton has taken Anita back to what it was like at the start of the series, Anita is still kick ass, Scary powerful and Sexy but she is still, insecure and getting herself hurt.  Affliction is more Action less Sex, which I really love because that is how the Anita Blake stories started.

Zombie Apocalypse, Shape shifters, Rotting Vampires and Necromancers what more could you want in a story?  Instead of all these elements creating confusion and different story lines, Hamilton manages to bring them together beautifully so we are left with a terrifying Zombie Apocalypse that even Anita doesn’t know if she is strong enough for.  The vampires have Changed the rules they are creating zombies and rotting vampires that are faster, smarter and more powerful than ever,  They are also spreading an infection through their bites that allow the master Vampire to control whoever gets bitten as well as the victim rotting from the inside out.

We see Anita displaying some weaknesses in Affliction which I love because she has survived everything, defeated nearly every big bad in the world, she would have to be the scariest person in the world.  so how did this master vampire survive so long without anyone knowing about him until now.

Anita travels with Micha to see his father who is dying of the rotting disease, and to mend bridges before he dies, while there Anita gets dragged into an Epic battle between vampires and zombies against humans. This isn’t her usually hunt it is war.

I loved Affliction and after 22 books It is amazing that Ms Hamilton can still keep me begging for more.

  2. This sounds super scary. 22 books. Amazing. Is there a point in the series a person can start without going back to the beginning or is that a reader/blogger sin just to think? I’m so glad you enjoyed it.
